In this segment, Randy and John discuss the scourge of veteran suicide, and the American Legion’s new “Be the One” campaign. This is a great opportunity for people to commit to saving just one veteran who is suffering from depression and suicidal ideation.

We welcome Dr. Michelle Oakley, the star of the hit TV series, “Yukon Vet” on National Geographic Wild, available for its 11th season via Disney+. Randy and Michelle talk about her upbringing, and how she found herself leaving the Midwest for the untamed Yukon, as well as how her family’s growth has been documented by this great series.

We welcome back legendary recording artist Shiela E. to the program to talk about her foundation supporting music education in our public schools. Randy and Sheila talk about the importance of education for our country and the critical thinking skills that are afforded by having a robust music education in their curriculum. Shiela has a new album out as well as a new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well!
Barbara Eden
Star of “I Dream of Jeannie,” actress Barbara Eden, joins The National Defense. We talk about her legendary acting career, her belly button, and her many proposals of marriage via the US Postal Service (most coming from Randy). Barbara is 91 years old and is traveling around the country with the Christmas Con, featuring 26 celebrity guests celebrating Holiday films.
Vicki Lawrence
We welcome one of our favorite comedic actresses, Vicki Lawrence, to the show. We talk about her legendary acting career, her multiple trips to support our troops in Vietnam, and her one-woman show where she has been able to reconnect with veterans. Randy and Vicki also talk about “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” and her upcoming special “90 Years of Laughter + Love” and much more in this segment.

We welcome the legendary singer/songwriter Pat Boone to the program to discuss his nearly seven decades of making music around the world. Pat has performed music from nearly every imaginable genre, and performed for people from nearly every stripe of life. Pat and Randy get down to the important topics in this episode, including an in-depth look in what exactly a “grit” is.

We welcome back Jay Glazer to the program to talk about the release of his great book in paperback: “Unbreakable: How I Turned My Depression and Anxiety into Motivation and You Can Too.” Jay has devoted himself to supporting members of our military that are suffering from anxiety, and he fills us in on the latest work of his great group: Merging Vets and Players. We will also talk a little about football and the upcoming NFL draft in Kansas City, MO.
Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins
We are honored to welcome Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins, Under-Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security and Chair for the NATO Conference on Arms Control, Disarmament and Weapons of Mass Destruction Non-Proliferation. This is the first year that this important group will be meeting in North America, and Ambassador Jenkins walks us through what lies ahead for this group and what we should be paying attention to.
